Borehamwood Physio, run by Physiotherapist and Clinical Pilates teacher Katy Neale, has developed a series of FREE online events to help you stay fit, well and healthy.
At Borehamwood Physio health promotion, well-being an injury prevention is extremely important. Face-to-face she uses a combination of manual therapy and rehabilitation to ensure the best possible outcome, but at this time she is trying to help you stay well with FREE virtual sessions.

SUNDAY 12TH APRIL
11am: Running session 2: New runners and a GREAT stretch session.
https://zoom.us/j/442078671TALK: New runners: You have never run before or you are starting again after a break. You want to progress your running, prevent injury and stay healthy. Running Coach Gemma will be talking to those new to running.
PHYSIO: Katy Neale from Borehamwood Physio will follow this with a session stretching.
12:30pm: Health & well-being session 4: Breathing, relaxation and stretching.
TALK: Why is breathing important? Sajni Shah from Calmer Chameleon will introduce you to the power of breathing. Simple techniques that help you stay calmer at this difficult time and reduce tension and anxiety.
PHYSIO: Katy Neale from Borehamwood Physio will be showing you simple exercise to reduce tension in your neck and chest. Optional equipment to bring to the LIVE: exercise mat.
MONDAY 13TH APRIL
5:30pm: Health & well-being session 5: Staying healthy through food AND Should exercise be PAINFUL?
TALK: : Food and your immune system. Esther Donoff Nutritional therapist will discuss nutrition and your immune system.
PHYSIO: Katy Neale will demonstrate a series of exercise progressions and will talk about pain and exercise with simple advice about when and if ‘pain’ is ok. Showing you how there are levels and many of us are unaware of how to start and how to progress. Optional equipment to bring to the LIVE: exercise mat.
SUNDAY 19TH APRIL
11am: Running session 3: All about the strength.
TALK: Why should I strengthen? I don’t have the time…: Running coach Gemma Bitaraf will give you first-hand experience of how strength and conditioning can help reduce your injury risk and allow you to stay running.
PHYSIO: Katy Neale from Borehamwood Physio will talk through the role of your Glutes in running and demonstrate some strengthening exercises. Optional equipment to bring to the LIVE: exercise mat.
12:30pm: Health & well-being session 6: PREGNANCY special: Backcare during pregnancy.
TALK & PHYSIO: Back care and Pregnancy: Katy Neale from Borehamwood Physio will run a session on back care in Pregnancy. Talking about why some women experience back and pelvic pain and demonstrating simple tips to look after yourself.
THURSDAY 23RD APRIL
5:30pm: Health & well-being 7: Moving with awareness.
TALK: Moving with awareness: Lucy from Presence of Mind will be teaching you how to bring awareness to the body when you move, to teach you listen to your body.
PHYSIO: Katy Neale from Borehamwood Physio will then go though some gentle stretches Optional equipment to bring to the LIVE: exercise mat.
SUNDAY 26TH APRIL
11am: Running session 4: Pain, injury and when to STOP
TALK: I’m in pain, but I don’t want to stop running… Running coach Gemma Bitaraf will discuss why spotting the signs is so important.
PHYSIO: Katy Neale from Borehamwood Physio will talk about basics of running injuries and run clinic. (Too much too soon) and go through Glute Max exercise teach to help reduce the risk of injuries.
12:30pm: Health & well-being session 8: Ultimate freedom during lockdown.
TALK: Ultimate Freedom During Lock-down: Fight, flight, reaction or creation. Ronit Gerber author & principle trainer of the SMILE System will go through our emotions and how they can cause us to feel physical discomfort. She will then introduce you to ways to shift your mindset into a positive inspirational thought pattern and helping you to feel better in yourself.
PHYSIO: Katy Neale from Borehamwood Physio will go through dynamic movement / stretching to help release tension from your body.
THURSDAY 30TH APRIL
5:30pm: Health & well-being session 9: How well can you stand in one leg?
TALK: Katy Neale from Borehamwood Physio will go through the importance of balance and how it helps prevents injuries and falls. This can affect us after an injury to our knee or ankle or it can become more of a problem as we get older.

11am: Running session 5: How do YOU influence your running?
TALK: How can YOU influence your running? Running coach Gemma Bitaraf will be discussing how different factors can influence your performance such as sleep, stress & recovery.
PHYSIO: Katy Neale from Borehamwood Physio will then run through a relaxation technique. Optional equipment to bring to the LIVE: exercise mat.
12:30pm: Health & well-being session 10: How to STOP in body and mind.
TALK: I just need to stop – but I don’t have time: Lucy from Presence of Mind will be showing us ways to create a space to STOP. To be able to take a bit of time to switch off and feel calmer.
PHYSIO: Katy Neale from Borehamwood Physio will then go through a brief introduction to a Pilates movement – teaching you to be present. Optional equipment to bring to the LIVE: exercise mat.
THURSDAY 7TH MAY
5:30pm: Neck and back tension. What can I do?
TALK & PHYSIO: Katy Neale from Borehamwood Physio will look at reasons why are back and neck could be tense. Followed by a stretch session. Optional equipment: Exercise mat.
SUNDAY 10TH MAY
11am: Running session 6: Fuel and running & Core strength
TALK: Why is the right fuel important? Running coach Gemma Bitaraf will discuss the ideas behind the right nutrition for your running. Running for performance & running for health.
PHYSIO: Katy Neale from Borehamwood Physio talks about preparing for the run physically. Katy Neale will be talking through core strengthening and running. Optional equipment to bring to the LIVE: exercise mat.
THURSDAY 14TH MAY
5:30pm: Health & well-being session 11: Shifting your perspective AND a stretch session.
TALK: Is the glass is half empty or half full? How can we see things from a different perspective? Ronit Gerber author & principle trainer of the SMILE System will share tools to help see a way through this difficult time by understanding about perspective and how we start to shift this.
PHYSIO: Katy Neale from Borehamwood Physio will go through stretches that are great for our legs, opening up tight hips and helping stretch out the calf muscles
SUNDAY 17TH MAY
12:30pm: Health & well-being session 12:How can thoughts and exercise make us happy?
TALK: Mindset – we are not our thoughts: Ronit Gerber author & principle trainer of the SMILE System will talk through the connection between thoughts, feelings and actions and our emotional well-being. She will share strategies to help you move away from unhelpful thoughts so you can find ways to manage even in this current time of uncertainty.
PHYSIO: Katy Neale from Borehamwood Physio will help raise serotonin levels (happy hormones) with some upper body exercises. Teaching you a simple workout. Optional equipment to bring to the LIVE: hand weights such as dumbbells or even tins of food.
THURSDAY 21ST MAY
12:30pm: Health & well-being session 13: Finding mental and physical freedom.
TALK: What is freedom really? Ronit Gerber author & principle trainer of the SMILE System will explain how being able to let go in times of difficulty can actually help us more than we think.
PHYSIO: Katy Neale from Borehamwood Physio will go through relaxation and breath work to allow you to let go physically. Optional equipment to bring to the LIVE: A chair or an exercise mat.
Gemma is a qualified England Athletics Coach in Running Fitness (CiRF) and one of the Head Coaches at Gade Valley Harriers.
She has been working with individuals and groups from beginners to competitive runners for over 10 years. Gemma’s focus is to work with runners to help them really understand their training and how they can influence their goals whether that be performance or health related.
She enjoys collaborating with other professionals to give the best possible experience and advice to her coaches to inspire and support them throughout their training journey.

Bio: Lucy Woods
Lucy Woods was a Training Manager for two major newspaper and magazine publishers for over 20 years. Having always sought to “fix” her own anxiety and pain issues, she discovered the benefits of practicing Mindfulness approximately 6 years ago.
After redundancy, it seemed fated that she should combine her training skills with her passion for the transformational effects of Mindfulness and so qualified to teach Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction with Kathy Ward from Mindful Academy International, and subsequently began a Masters in Mindfulness with Bangor University (The Centre for Mindfulness Research and Practice) studying under some of the most renowned experts in Mindfulness in the UK.
